KoMets roll past Cannon Falls, 50-16

Last Thursday the KoMets opened up their conference wrestling season with a win over Cannon Falls, 50-16.

The Bombers showed up to wrestle in front of their home town crowd. They jumped on the score board first, picking up a decision victory over Kalin Anderson (106).

Broc Vaughan (113) make quick work of his take downs and tilts for a technical fall. The KoMets were open at 120. Head Coach, Ryan Hill, is still working through his options for the varsity line-up, especially in the lower weights.

A top match-up of the night came at 126. Jonah Coleman faced Gavin Peterson. Peterson is currently ranked #5 in the state rankings. In a six minute battle of hand fighting, shots, re-attacks, and scrambles, they would head into overtime tied up 1:1. Peterson was able to secure a take down, winning 3-1.

Next up were the Friedrich twins. Aiden (132) fell by major decision, 11-1. Owen stepped out on the mat at 138, making his season debut after suffering an elbow injury this past summer at Fargo Nationals. He spent the remainder of his summer and fall recovering from surgery and rehabbing with physical therapy. Owen won by decision, 6-2.

A new name to get familiar with this season is Kaylub White (145). Coach Hill slid White into the line-up at 145 and bumped up the upper weights. White picked up his first varsity win by a pin fall at 1:20.

The KoMets went on to win out the remainder of the dual. Joey Kennedy (152) winning by decision. Noah Swarts (160) grabbed a pin (3:50). Dominic Mann (170) with the technical fall. Cole Glazier received a forfeit (182). Jacob Duitsman (195) winning by decision. The Bombers would forfeit to Kayden White (220) and Heath Parrish (Hwt).

The KoMets hosted Byron/Lourdes on Tuesday in a conference match-up. Results in next week’s paper.

This weekend is the annual Minnesota Christmas Tournament. The venue site has changed. It is no longer at RCTC. The tournament will be held at the Mayo Civic Center Friday and Saturday. Wrestling starts at 12 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
