Kasson-Mantorville’s Jake Hallstrom grabs a rebound in the Section semifinal game against the Austin Packers.

KoMets boys season ends in semifinals

No. 4-seeded Kasson-Mantorville boys were firing on all cylinders and hitting from all directions, sinking 10 of 20 three-point attempts, en route to a thrilling 48-43 victory over No. 5-seeded Red Wing, on Tuesday, March 8, in Section 1AAA quarterfinal play.

Using stifling shooting from trey-range, the KoMets claimed a 30-21 advantage at the intermission. But when K-M’s lead transformed into a waning-moments deficit, the “K-M-Kids” displayed determination and guts, as they battled back, grabbed the win, and earned their way to the semifinal round on Saturday; and the right to take-on the No. 1-seeded Austin Packers.

As is so many times the case, tight games boil down to the charity stripe...it giveth and it taketh away. This time, it gave K-M the victory, as Jake Hallstrom, Jordan Klepel and Mason Flom, were all 2-for-2 at the line in the final 1:23 of play. Red Wing Game K-M Stats: Jordan Klepel, 2 points, 7 rebounds; Camden Holecek, 20 points, (6) 3-pointers; Mason Flom, 4 points, 4 rebounds; Jake Hallstrom, 12 points, (2) 3-pointers; Easton Suess, 2 points, 5 rebounds; Ethan Lee, 8 points, (2) 3-pointers.
