KoMet wrestlers go 2-0 at K-W Triangular

The Kasson-Mantorville KoMets grabbed two HVL victories last Thursday night in Kenyon. Kenyon-Wanamingo hosted a triangular with KM and Lake City. 

KM wrestled Lake City first, winning 52-15. With a similar score, KM then beat K-W, 53-16. 

The most exciting match of the night came down to a stalling call for what appeared to be an untied shoelace.  

At heavyweight, Anthony Moe-Tucker faced off against Lake City's, Max Balow. All eyes were on this match. Two football players at heart, Moe-Tucker and Balow faced off inside the wrestling circle. 

It looked more like Offensive Line vs Defensive Line. Moe-Tucker and Balow countered each other's athleticism for six straight minutes with scrambles, escapes, and takedowns. Moe-Tucker got called for stalling at the end first period for an untied shoelace. 

As the clock ticked down in the third period, and the score tied up, both boys were looking for one final take down to win the match, or, head into an exciting overtime. 

With :02 seconds left on the clock, Moe-Tucker got hit with a second stalling call for, again, an untied shoelace. Balow would win by decision, 6-5. With Section wrestling just a few weeks away, fans can hope to see a rematch between Moe-Tucker and Balow.

The KoMets wrestled K-W for a second time this season. The first time they met, KM won 61-12. K-W entered the dual with two ranked wrestlers, Trent Foss (120) and Tyler Quam (220).

Devon Andrist (120) had to injury default early in the first period vs. Foss with a back injury. Jackson Kennedy (220) secured a second win this season over Quam, 10-6. 

Senior Giovanni Ruffo (152) looked sharp Thursday night, going 2-0. Ruffo pinned Kozlowski (LC) and grabbed a solid 4-1 decision over Olson (K-W).

This Thursday night, the KoMets will hit the mat for their last regular season dual (triangular). They will face off against Owatonna and Shakopee. The KoMets will also celebrate Senior Night on Thursday.

3/20: Individual State Prelims.  Section 1 &  4 combined.  Top 2 advance.  Cannon Falls to host

3/25:  Class A State

3/26:  Class AA State.  Team in the AM.  Individuals in the PM.  STMA to host

3/27:  Class AAA State
