KoMet baseball season ends in Winona

Kasson-Mantorville’s KoMets traveled to Winona Tuesday, June 1, evening to take on the Winhawks in a section 1AAA elimination game.

In the top of the 1st inning, the KoMets were able to get runners on 1st and 2nd after singles from Mitch Nelson and Gavin Giesler but left them stranded. Winona responded with 2 bases runners of their own but Kellen Wilke stuck out the final batter of the inning to leave them stranded as well.

Nothing doing for either team in the 2nd inning before the KoMets were able to scratch across 1 run in the top of the 3rd on an RBI single from Wilke. Winona responded in the bottom of the 4th inning plating 2 runs on a single to take a 2-1 lead.

The KoMets were not able to capatilize in the later innings leaving men on base each inning. The Winhawks broke the game open in the bottom of the 6th, scoring 8 runs (1 earned) on three KoMet errors.

KoMets season ends with a 10-1 loss to Winona. The KoMets finish the season with an 8-13 record.

Kasson-Mantorville vs. Jordan

The Kasson-Mantorville KoMets headed to Jordan, on Saturday, May 29,  to take on the Jordan Hubmen in the first round of the section 1AAA tournament. We had quite the pitcher's duel on our hand before the KoMets fell by a final score of 1-0. The score was 0-0 heading to the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Hubmen were able to scratch across 1 run on a KoMet error.

The KoMets threatened in the top of the 4th but had the game tying run thrown out at home plate. In the top of the 5th the KoMets were threatening again with a guy on second and no outs but were unable to bring him home. The Hubmen pitcher Kyle Hvidsten shut down the KoMets the next 2 innings to secure the victory.

The KoMets then headed to Winona on Tuesday, June 1, in an elimination game against the Winhawks.

Kasson-Mantorville vs. Wanamingo

KoMets went north on 57 to Wanamingo on Tuesday, May 25, to take on the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights.

Kellen Wilke started on the hill and threw a absolute gem! The KoMets got things going right away in the top of the first batting through the order and plating 3 runs. Highlighted by a double by Corbin Horning and an RBI single from Gavin Giesler.

From there on out there were zeros posted by both teams until the top of the 7th when the KoMets played 2 insurance runs on an RBI double from Landon Wenzel. Kellen Wilke shut down the Knights in the bottom of the 7th secure the 5-0 win. Wilke tosses 7 shutout innings, yielding only 3 hits and striking out 7.
