KM, Triton notch football wins; Byron, Hayfield drop games
K-M football boys cruise along
Kasson-Mantorville once again proved why they hold a No. 8-ranking, following a 42-14 beat down of winless Albert Lea on Friday night, September 24.
The KoMets spread- around the scoring opportunities, with six different players tallying TDs. Gavin Giesler, Broc Barwald, Matthew Donovan, Anthony Moe-Tucker, Emmett Ricke and Michael Hoff, all found pay dirt, as Kasson-Mantorville jumped to 3-1 overall on the season. Dominic Mann led the KoMets with 55-yards rushing, on 11 carries, while teammate Giesler added 54-yards on the ground (Kasson-Mantorville: 28-14-0-0–42; Albert Lea: 0-0-14-0 –14).
Gridiron Bears tripped-up by Tigers
Following a 14-0 first quarter advantage over Stewartville last Friday night, September 24, the Byron Bears felt fairly confident and perhaps a bit too relaxed. But the Tigers clawed their way back into contention and closed the deficit to 14- 13 at the intermission.
Stewartville posted a rushing TD in the penultimate quarter, and sewed-up things in the fourth, on an 18-yard TD reception.
Byron quarterback Nick Netzke threw a pair of first-quarter TD passes (a 45-yarder to Matt Frigaard and a 5-yard TD grab to James Durst) which gave the Bears their only lead. Netzke finished 11 of 21 for 154 yards, in the Bears’ 28-20 loss.
Hayfield football team-no match for K-W
What appeared to be so good for Hayfield on the gridiron last Saturday, September 25, turned really bad in a hurry. The Vikings lit-up the scoreboard with 14 first-quarter points, only to see Kenyon-Wanamingo peck away and double-up Hayfield’s first stanza efforts to take a 28-14 win.
