Byron’s Katie Lambrecht came down the backstretch of the 400 race last week at the State Track Meet.

Katie Lambrecht competes at state for Byron

Byron’s Katie Lambrecht went into the state track meet knowing she had her work cut out for her to make the podium as she was seeded to do so in just one event.

Katie started the day running the 100 dash were she ran a new personal best time of 12.43 and finished 13th. Up next was the 400 where Katie was seeded 10th going in. In the end Katie ran a great race setting a new personal record and school record with a time of 57.62. This time put Katie fifth, earning her a spot on the podium.

Twenty five minutes later Katie was back on the track for her final race of the day the 200. She was seeded fifth coming into the state meet, but with such a short amount of recovery time it was going to be a tough task to hold that spot. In the end Katie ran a 25.77 and made her way on to the podium one last time in ninth place.

Earlier, the Byron Girls were well represented in the class AA Section 1 track and field meet.

The girls ended up taking fifth place out of 17, finishing behind four of the biggest schools in the state including Rosemount, Farmington, Lakeville North, and Rochester Century. Byron was led by senior Katie Lambrecht who had a big day qualifying for the state meet in three events.

Katie finished third in the 100 dash running a 12.44 (PR) and qualifying by running under the standard of 12.46. Katie then qualified in the 400 finishing second with a time of 58.5 and then finished off the day taking second in the 200 dash with a time of 25.34 (PR).  Top two in each event automatically qualify.

Many of the other girls had big days and many made the podium representing the Lady Bears.

Emma Johnson had a very good day finishing fifth in the 100 hurdles with a new personal best of 15.9 and then finished her day with a new personal best in the pole vault with a height of 10’3 and just missing state with a third place finish on misses.
