Kasson wrestlers wrap up regular season, head to sections

Last Thursday night the KoMets wrapped up their regular season and also celebrated the Class of 2021with Senior Night. Seniors include Jackson Kennedy, Giovonni Ruffo, Dylan Baker and cheerleader Mazy Gilbertson.

The KoMets hosted Owatonna and Shakopee in a night of competitive wrestling. Owatonna came into the night ranked #12 in Class AAA, while Shakopee is the #1 ranked team for Class AAA. KM remains ranked #2 in Class AA behind Simley.  

The night opened up with KM vs Shakopee. Both teams entered the dual with six ranked wrestlers sprinkled throughout their line-ups. The KoMets are working through adjustments to their line-up in the lower weights due to a few injuries.  

Shakopee took the dual 40-23. Luke Swanson (106), Logan Vaughan (145), Cole Glazier (160), Kail Wynia (170) and Bennett Berge (182) all grabbed victories against the Sabers.  

Next up, was KM vs Owatonna. Shakopee beat Owatonna 38-26.  

The KoMets looked sharp against Owatonna. Up and down the line-up, there seemed to be a different feeling of intensity than their previous dual of the night.  

Swanson (106) got the team going with a pin fall. Sam Graunke (113) wrestled a solid six minutes to win by decision. Owatonna's #3 ranked Cael Robb picked up a pin fall at 120 over Cody Fleck. KM was open at 126, as Joey Kennedy is out due to injury.  

Henry Paulson (138) put up another six points for the team with a pin fall. Vaughan (145) remained untouched as he won by major decision. Senior  Giovanni Ruffo (152), lost by decision to Owatonna's #10 ranked Jacob Reinardy.

Next to take the mat was KM's #3 ranked Cole Glazier. He would face Owatonna's #1 ranked, Landen Johnson. Glazier scored the first take down and never looked back, winning by decision, 12-7.  

 Dylan Baker (170) grabbed an upset of his own over #6 ranked, Kaden Nelson, 3-2. Wynia (182) followed that up with another decision, 7-1.

Berge (195), Anthony Moe-Tucker (220) and Reed Parrish (Hwt) finished out the dual for the KoMets, all claiming pin falls over the Huskies.  Final team score 52-15.

"It was fun to watch the whole team perform at a high level throughout the entire line-up and it is a great momentum swing for us going into the post season." said Sophomore Cole Glazier.  

Wednesday KM was scheduled to host the first two rounds for team, Section 1AA. 

Saturday morning the Section 1AA championship will be held at Cretin Durham Hall. The champion from Section 1AA will then face the champion from Section 4AA. One team will advance on to a four-team bracket at State.
