K-M football team snatches spectacular victory
Kasson-Mantorville provided a fantastic finish in Friday night’s October1st matchup with a formidable Faribault team.
The KoMets Matthew Donovan ran for a 73- yard touchdown in the waning moments of the game. That was the deciding dagger that gave K-M a 42-41 win over the powerhouse Falcons. Along with a plethora of points, there was an outpouring of offense. The combined 83 points by the two teams was attained from Kasson-Mantorville’s 520 yards of offense; and Faribault’s 470 total yards tally.
K-M, ranked seventh in Class AAAA, gained nearly all of its offense on the ground (487 yards). Donovan contributed 226 of those yards, with 4 touchdowns on 16 carries. (K-M, 42; Faribault, 41; Faribault-7-20-14-0–41; K-M-7-14-7-14–42).
Bears team loses to Cougars
Byron football boys ran into a buzz saw last Friday night, October 1. Playing host to a powerful Mankato East team, the Cougars weren’t very gracious guests, as they shut-out the Bears, 17-0. Mankato’s Brady Hoffner caught a 23- yard touchdown pass, and he was in on 11 tackles for the victorious Cougars. Meer Othow had a 45-yard touchdown reception and an INT. Diego Reyes carried nine times for 78 yards, and Gus Gartzke had 18 carries for 74 yards.
The Cougars forced four turnovers in the win (Mankato East: 0-7-10-0—17; Byron: 0-0-0-0—0). Byron Individual Cumulative Stats: Passing: 7-17 for 43 yards, 2 INTs; Rush- ing: 27 carries for 80 yards; Receiving: 7 for 43 yards; Punt Returns: 3 for 14 yards; Kick Re- turns: 4 for 68 yards.
Hayfield football team sails to victory
Hayfield’s Vikings had smooth sailing on Friday night, October 1, as they overwhelmed Wabasha-Kellogg, 42-12. Hayfield’s Karver Heydt rushed for 245 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.
