Hayfield boys head to semifinals, KM defeats Saints

Hayfield’s Vikings survived a serious scare from the No. 8-seeded Randolph Rockets on Monday night, March 7, in the Section 1A quarterfinal round at Rochester Mayo Civic Auditorium. Randolph jumped-out 10-2, to start the game.

But state-defending champion and No. 1-ranked Hayfield clawed and scratched its way back and finally emerged with a four- point win (66-62).

“They went triangle-and-2 on Isaac and Ethan and dared Kobe to shoot. He hit (5) threes the first half and three more the second half. We got up 45-29 after scoring the first 7 points of the second half,” commented Coach Chris Pack.

But fast-forward to the game’s waning moments: when Hayfield (27-2) seemed to have everything back in order, Randolph (14- 14) did it all over again.
