Football KoMets bested by Stewartville; Bears, Vikings, Cobras win

Kasson-Mantorville’sfoot- ball team battled a powerful Stewartville squad last Friday, October 8, and the Tigers outlasted the KoMets, 28-21.

Quarterback Matthew Donovan was the impetus for K-M’s offensive attack, as he was involved in all three of the KoMets touch- downs. Donovan hit senior Gavin Giesler for a 25-yard TD pass, which knotted the score at 7-7, early.

Then after falling behind by two scores at the half, Donovan led a 12-play scoring drive for K-M late in the third, chewing up nearly six minutes before an 8-yard touchdown run on fourth- and-goal brought the KoMets back within a touchdown. Donovan finished with 52 yards on 16 attempts. Teammate senior Anthony Moe-Tucker led the KoMets with 74 yards on eight carries.

Donovan. 2nd quarter: Stewie: pass, TD from E. Klevetter to A. Larson for 5 yards; extra point by P. Wangen; pass, TD from E Klavetter to J. Weight- man for 46 yards; extra point by P. Wangen; 3rd quarter: K-M: run, TD for 8 yards; extra point by A. Donovan. 4th quarter: Stewie: pass, TD from E. Klavetter to J. Weightman for 16 yards; extra point by P. Wangen; K-M: run TD by M. Donovan for 4 yards; extra point by A. Donovan (K-M: 7-0-7-7—21; Stewartville: 7-14-0-7—28).

Stewartville wraps up the district portion of its regular season next week at Winona, while the KoMets host struggling Red Wing.
