Byron soccer girls earn first-ever state berth

Byron junior Taylor Finney scored a goal with just 1:27 left to lift the Bears past Kasson-Mantorville, 1-0, in the Section 1AA girls’ soccer championship game on Tuesday, October 19.

The match was a typical Byron versus Kasson-Mantorville contest. Byron Head Coach Jeremy Baum- bach said the teams have played, each within a goal of each other, in seven of the last eight meetings.

Tuesday’s match was a back-and-forth affair; up-and-down the pitch. Byron outshot the KoMets, however, the Bears did not find the back of the net until the waning moments of the match.
