Byron Gymnasts place 5th at True Team State
Byron girls gymnasts traveled to Worthington on Saturday, January 28, to compete in the True Team State Meet and came away finishing fifth out of ten of the top teams in the state.
In this meet, all five girls counted in the team score versus the normal four. Individuals received scores, but only the team scores for each event were acknowledged.
After two byes, the girls started the competition on the floor. They finished with a team score of 42.625, with Lydia Evans leading the way with a score of 9. Amber Roble finished with an 8.75 and Sophia Mullenbach scored an 8.675. Ella Ott scored an 8.275 and Savannah Byron scored a 7.925.
After another two byes, the girls went to vault where they finished with a team score of 43. Lydia Evans led the way with a 9.1. Amber Roble scored an 8.6 and Ella Ott was close behind with an 8.55. Ava Mertesdorf and Anna Splinter rounded out the team with scores of 8.4 and 8.35.
After struggling a little on the first two events, the girls finished off the day strong. The girls traveled to bars next, where they put up one of their best team scores of the season. Amber Roble got on track and scored a season high of 8.6. Sophia Mullenbach had a season best as well, with an 8.375, and Lydia Evans was close behind with an 8.3. Ella Ott and Jocie Halfman also had strong performances, with Ella scoring an 8.175 and Jocie a 7.575. The team’s total was 41.025.
The last event of the day was beam and all five girls finished the day with no falls. Amber Roble finished with a nice score of 9.475 and Lydia Evans had a 9.05. Sophia Mullenbach completed her full routine and scored an 8.925. Ella Ott and Jocie Halfman finished out the team scoring with solid scores of 8.275 and 8.0.
It was an amazing experience for the team. The girls wrap up the regular season with meets on January 31 in Caledonia and then at home on February 2.
Byron wins duel in Austin
The team traveled to Austin on Tuesday, January 24, to compete against the Packers. The girls finished the meet with 136.525 points, to Austin’s 131.4 points. With the win, the girls stayed undefeated in dual meets.
Amber Roble, Lydia Evans and Ella Ott competed in the All-Around. Amber finished first with a nice, combined score of 36 points. Lydia and Ella both did well, Lydia finishing second with a score of 34.95 and Ella finishing fifth with a score of 32.5.
The girls had a solid night on vault, taking four of the top five places. Amber Roble led the way with a very strong vault scoring a 9.3. Lydia Evans finished right behind in second with a score of 8.95. Ella Ott and Ava Mertesdorf finished out the top four scores for the team, with Ella finishing fourth with a score of 8.65 and Ava fifth with a score of 8.5.
On bars the girls took four of the top five places as well. Amber Roble and Lydia Evans had strong routines, finishing first and second. Amber finished with a score of 8.6 and Lydia finished with a score of 8.45. Ella Ott and Sophia Mullenbach did well with Ella finishing fourth, with an 8.0 and Sophia finishing fifth with a 7.7.
On beam the girls struggled to stay on a little, but overall did well. Amber Roble took the top spot once again with a strong beam routine, finishing with a 9.275. Sophia Mullenbach stayed on with a couple of nice saves to finish third with a score of 8.4 and Lydia Evans did the same and finished right behind with an 8.35. Jocie Halfman rounded out the top four scores for the team, finishing eighth with a score of 7.75.
On floor it was Lydia Evans that led the way, taking top honors with a very nice performance and finishing with a score of 9.2. Amber Roble also did well, taking third with a score of 8.825. Sophia Mullenbach and Ella Ott rounded out the team’s top four scorers. Sophia finished seventh and Ella finished eighth with scores of 8.325 and 8.275.
