Byron gymnasts coming around

The Byron Girls Gymnastics Team improved to 5 and 1 on the season as they tumbled their way past the LaCrescent Lancer on Tuesday, Feb. 23. The girls put together their best meet of the season with a score of 137.275.  LaCrescent finished with a score of 128.025.

Amber Roble led the team with a very strong all-around score of 36.25 and claimed the top spot on three of the four events. Lydia Evans was able to compete all-around as well and finished third with a score of 33.425.

On vault the girls put together their best score of the season as they are finding their landings more consistently. Amber Roble took second with a score of 8.775 and teammate Olivia Yennie took third with a score of 8.75. Lydia Evans and Taylor Dean finished fourth and fifth with scores of 8.7 and 8.625.  Sophia Mullenbauch finished seventh with a score of 8.45.

On bars the girls had their best team and several personal bests. Amber Roble swung her way to the top with a nice score of 8.8. Emma Johnson and Lydia Evans tied for second with their scores of 8.05. Taylor Dean had her personal best bar score of 7.7 and finished fourth. Ella Ott rounded out the varsity finishing sixth with a score of 7.525.

The girls kept the night going with a strong performance on beam as well. Amber Roble had a season best score of 9.3 and finished first. Olivia Yennie had a strong performance as well with a score of 8.75 and finished second.  Ella Ott stayed on the beam with no falls as well and finished fourth with a score of 8.275. Lydia Evans finished fifth with a score of 8.0 and Leah Yokiel took seventh with a score of 7.125.

On floor the girls made it a clean sweep taking the top five places. Amber Roble took first with a season best score of 9.375. Emma Johnson took second with a score of 8.725. Leah Yokiel and Olivia Yennie tied for third with a score of 8.7 and Lydia Evans finished fifth with a score of 8.675.

Byron JV

The JV squad also had a very solid night finishing with a team score of 128.15.  LaCrescent finished with a score of 64.9.  Top three finishers included:

All-Around: Avery Basile – 1^st (31.85) / Jocie Halfman – 2^nd (31.0) / Anna Splinter – 3^rd (30.0)

Vault: Emma Johnson – 1^st (8.3) / Anna Splinter, Brooke Kovash, Leah Yokiel – 2^nd (8.25)

Bars: Sophia Mullenbauch – 1^st (7.9) / Leah Yokiel & Olivia Yennie – 2^nd (7.6)

Beam: Emma Johnson – 1^st (7.85) / Jocie Halfman – 2^nd (7.65) / Avery Basile – 3^rd (7.5)

Floor: Avery Basile – 1^st (8.9) / Ella Ott & Taylor Dean – 2^nd (8.55)
