Byron gymnastics showed well

Byron Girls Gymnastics season got off to a solid start despite falling short to the very strong and talented PIZM team. The girls accumulated 134.8 points to PIZM’s 137.3. The girls had several solid performances, led by Sophomore Amber Roble (2nd in the all-around) and Freshman Lydia Evans (3rd in the all-around). 

The team had several top five finishssr throughout the evening on each event.

On vault, Amber Roble finished third with a score of 8.5 and Lydia Evans finished fifth with a score of 8.45. 

On bars, Lydia Evans finished second with a score of 8.0, Emma Johnson was fourth with a score of 7.7 and Leah Yokiel took fifth with a score of 7.675.

On beam the girls had a very good night.  Lydia Evans finished first with a score of 9.35.  Amber Roble followed close behind in second with a score of 9.325.

On floor the girls also had a strong showing.  Amber Roble finished second with a score of 9.15.  Teammate Leah Yokiel finished in fourth with a score of 8.925 and Olivia Yennie was close behind in fifth with a score of 8.8.

In the all-round, Amber Roble finished second with a score of 34.6. Teammates Lydia Evans, Olivia Yennie and Emma Johnson finished third, fourth and fifth in the all-around scoring. Lydia finished with a total of 34.275, Olivia with 32.225 and Emma with a total of 31.85.

On the JV side, Byron took first with a team total of 125.1 points to PIZM’s 112.7. The Byron girls took the top four all-around spots, led by 8th grader Ella Ott with a score of 31.75. Ella also took first on bars and floor and second on beam. Avery Basile finished second with a score of 29.95 and took third on bars and floor. 

Jocie Halfman finished third with a score of 29.6 with her best finish on bars – 4th.  Anna Splinter and Brooke Kovash tied for fourth with scores of 29.3. +

Anna took second on vault and floor and Brook’s best finish was third on floor.

This a well-balanced team of veteran leadership and youth, with plenty of talent to be very succseful.
