Byron gymnastics finish regular season undefeated

It has been a busy two weeks for the Byron gymnastics team. The team finished up the regular season by traveling to Caledonia on Tuesday (1/31) and then at home vs Stewartville and Kasson-Mantorville/Triton. The team finished its regular season dual meets going 7-0.

The girls made the long trip to Caledonia on Jan. 31 and came home with a 138.975 to 124.95 win. The kids had a great night on beam and set a new school record. The beam was the last event of the night, and the foursome of Lydia Evans (9.5 — New PR), Amber Roble (9.35), Sophia Mullenbach (8.875) and Ella Ott (8.65 — new PR) set the new record with a combined score of 36.375. They took the top four spots on the event and Jocie Halfman rounded out the sweep of the beam with a strong performance as well with a score of 8.325.

The girls had a strong showing on floor as well, with Lydia Evans taking the top spot with a new PR score of 9.525. Teammates Amber Roble and Sophia Mullenbach also scored well with both finishing with scores of 9.0. Ella Ott rounded out the top four on the floor, finishing sixth with a score of 8.3. On bars, the girls took the top five places. Amber Roble led the way with an 8.375. Ella Ott took second with a new PR score of 8.2 and Sophia Mullenbach finished with a score of 8.075. Lydia Evans and Jocie Halfman rounded out the squad with Lydia scoring a 7.9 and Jocie a 7.85.

The girls had a mixed performance on vault. Lydia Evans took the top spot with a score of 8.975 and Ella Ott was second with a score of 8.6. Ava Mertesdorf finished third with a score of 8.35 and Amber Roble rounded out the top four, finishing fourth with a score of 8.3. In the all-around, Lydia Evans finished first with a new PR score of 35.9. Amber Roble was second with a score of 35.025 and Ella Ott finished third with a score of 33.75, which tied a PR.

Home vs Stewartville and K-M/T: The girls finished the season on February 2, at home. It was senior night and the team recognized Amber Roble, Sophia Mullenbach and Hailey Ressie. The team finished the night winning with a score of 137.225 to KMT ’s score of 126.475 and Stewartville’s score of 109.65.

The girls started the night off on the vault. Amber Roble had a great vault to lead the team, setting a new PR score of 9.425. Lydia Evans finished second with a score of 9.025. Ella Ott finished third with an 8.625 and Ava Mertesdorf was fifth with an 8.6. Sophia Mullenbach rounded out the team in seventh with an 8.4.

On the bars the girls swept the top five places. Amber Roble led the way with an 8.375 and Sophia Mullenbach was close behind with an 8.25. Lydia Evans and Ella Ott both finished in the eights with Lydia scoring an 8.1 and Ella an 8.0. Jocie Halfman rounded out the sweep with a score of 7.55.

The girls had another strong showing on beam. Amber Roble led the way with a very strong routine, finishing first with a score of 9.425. Lydia Evans, Sophia Mullenbach, Ella Ott and Jocie Halfman took places third through sixth. Lydia scored an 8.775, Sophia an 8.425, Ella an 8.3 and Jocie an 8.2.

The girls finished the night on floor and it was a bit rough, but the girls pulled through. Lydia Evans took first with a score of 9.0. Ella Ott had her best performance, finishing third with a score of 8.675. Savannah Byron finished fifth with an 8.175. Sophia and Amber rounded out the team with scores of 8.05 and 8.025.

In the all-around the girls placed well. Amber Roble took first with a score of 35.25 and Lydia Evans was second with 34.9. Ella Ott and Sophia Mullenbach finished fourth and fifth with scores of 33.6 and 33.125. Up next for the girls is the Conference Championship Meet on February 11 in Stewartville.
