Submitted Photo Byron’s girls’ gymnastics team went to Stewartville last Saturday and returned home as the Southeast Conference champions. Next stop is the Section Championships this Saturday in Austin.

Byron girls gymnasts win conference meet

Byron’s girls’ gymnastics team competed in the Southeast Conference Championships on Saturday, February 11, in Stewartville.

The girls came away as the conference champs, scoring a season high 139.4. PIZM finished second with 129.575, Caledonia third with 125.15, Kasson-Mantorville/Triton fourth with 122.475, Stewartville fifth with 111.875, and LaCrescent, sixth with 33.375.

The team also had six girls earn All-Conference Honors, which included Amber Roble, Sophia Mullenbach, Lydia Evans, Anna Splinter, Jocie Halfman and Ella Ott.

The girls started the day on bars with the top four girls finishing in the top five. Amber Roble took first with an 8.5, Lydia Evans took second with an 8.3, Sophia Mullenbach took third with an 8.225 and Ella Ott took fifth with an 8.125. Jocie Halfman rounded out the bar group and finished seventh with an 8.025.

The girls traveled to the beam next. The trio of Amber Roble, Sophia Mullenbach and Lydia Evens swept the top three places. Amber took first again with a very good routine, scoring a 9.375. Sophia Mullenbach also had a strong routine, taking second with a score of 8.95. Lydia Evans had a fall, but still put things together well, taking third with a score of 8.65. Ella Ott and Jocie Halfman rounded out the beam group with Ella scoring a 7.4 and Jocie a 7.3.

Next up was the floor for the girls. Lydia Evans came away as the floor champion with a great routine, scoring a 9.375. Amber Roble had a strong routine as well, finishing second with a score of 9.15. Sophia Mullenbach and Ella Ott also had solid routines, finishing sixth and seventh with scores of 8.925 and 8.5. Savannah Byron rounded out the group, finishing eleventh with a score of 8.15.

After a bye, the girls finished up the day on vault.

The girls had a very strong showing, with Amber Roble winning her third event of the day with a score of 9.325. Lydia Evans was close behind in second place with a score of 9.3. Anna Splinter took seventh with a score of 8.675 and teammates Ava Mertesdorf and Ella Ott finished tied for ninth with scores of 8.625.

When all the scores were tallied, it was Amber Roble taking the All-Around title with a score of 36.35. Teammate Lydia Evans was the All-Around runner-up with a combined score of 35.625. Ella Ott finished fifth in the All-Around with a score of 32.65.

The girls travel to Austin on Saturday, February 18, to compete in the section championship meet.
