Byron Bears earn shot at state appearance

Byron Bears baseball team played their way back to a state slot on Saturday, June 4, in the Section 1AAA tournament, at Austin’s Marcusen Park.

Winona and Byron faced each other in the winner’s bracket final, and they were scheduled to meet one another again Wednesday night with a trip to the state tournament on the line. Winona’s 6-5 win against the Bears in Saturday’s section semi-final puts the third-seeded Winhawks in the driver’s seat. They needed to beat top-seeded Byron just once at Austin’s Marcusen Park, and now Byron needs to beat Winona, to win the section title.

The Winhawks trailed Byron, 5-2, before scoring four runs to rally for the win.
