Boys hockey team wins 2, girls go 1-1

Both the Dodge County girls and boys Wildcat hockey teams were on the ice last week with the boys team winning two games while the girls split at 1-1.

The boys went against Simley at home on Tuesday, Feb. 2, coming away with a 6-4 victory.

It was a busy first period as the Wildcats scored first at 0:15 with a goal by Brendon Wolesky and again at 3:07 with a goal by Brody Lamb.

Simley answered with two goals before Lamb scored a second goal for the Wildcats at 10:40 in the period and Gavin Giesler scored at 11:20.

The two teams traded goals in the second period with Simley scoring at 8:41 in the period, Lamb getting a third goal at 10:05, Simley scoring at 10:10 and Matt Donovan providing the Wildcats with their last goal on a power play at 15:30.

There was no scoring in the third period.

Isaac Dale was in goal for the Wildcats, turning back 21 of 25 shots-on-goal.

Dodge County was back on the home ice on Friday, Feb. 5, where they topped Luverne by a 9 to 1score.

It was all Wildcats as Miles Smith, James McPeak and Brody Lamb all scored goals in the first period. Brendon Wolesky scored the first goal of the second period at 3:30 while Luverne got their only goal of the game at 12:27.

The Wildcats got five goals in the third period. Gryffon Funke scored the first goal of the period at 0:39. Easton Hammil scored at 4:55 and Lamb followed close behind with a goal at 5:09. Connor Preston put the puck in the net at 6:40 and Funke ended the scoring for the evening with a goal at 7:50 of the third period.

Ben Nelson was in goal and deflected five of six shots-on-goal.

The Wildcats boys were 4-1-1 on the season after the Luverne game and were scheduled to play Albert Lea on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats girls team was also at home against Luverne on Friday, Feb. 5, and came away with a 4-1 win.

Dodge County scored all their goals in the first period. Anna Braun scored at 4:08, Lyndi Schubert at 11:33, McKenna Freerksen at 13:23 and Natalie Ahern at 15.23.

There was no scoring in the second period and Luverne got their only goal of the game late in the third period.

Sky Hughes was in goal for the Wildcats deflecting 25 of 26 shots-on-goal.

The team was on the ice again on Saturday, Feb. 6, where they went against the Breck team, losing the game 4-1.

The Wildcats got their only score in the first period with Lyndi Schubert getting the puck in the net on a power play at 16:00.

Breck scored once in the second period and three times in the third.

Sky Hughes was the goalie deflecting 46 of 50 shots-on-goal.

The Wildcats were 5-2 after the Breck game. They were scheduled to play Hill-Murray on Tuesday, Feb. 9
