Boys' Basketball

It was rough going for the Byron basketball team last week. On Tuesday, January 17, the Bears lost to Lake City, 63-58. Thursday’s action saw the Goodhue Wildcats outlast the Byron boys, 62-51.

Lake City Game: Byron Scoring: Ryan Boyken, 6 points, (2) 3-pointers; Will Brian, 8 points; Dom Cartney, 6 points; Tyler Connelly, 14 points, (1) 3-pointer; Zach Vanderpool, 15 points, (1) 3-pointer; Colin Hanson, 9 points.

(Halftime: Byron 35, Goodhue 28; Free throws: Byron 0-2, Goodhue 4-7; Three-pointers: Byron 9, Goodhue 4.) Byron led by as many as 13 in the first half and held a seven-point advantage at the break. Goodhue used a pressuring defense to rally in the second half, going on a 34-16 run.

K-M boys fall to Zumbrota-Mazeppa

Kasson-Mantorville basketball boys lost to Zumbrota-Mazeppa, 66-48, on Friday, January 20.

Vikings bucket boys earn split

Hayfield’s boys basketball team had a win and a loss last week. On Tuesday, January 17, the Vikings handled Faribault Bethlehem Academy, 60-43, and on Friday, the 20th, Hayfield lost a low-scoring affair to Maple River, 49-39.

Cobra boys endure 1-2 week

Triton boys had a pretty active week on the hardcourt. On Tuesday, the Cobras lost a heartbreaker, 70-69, to Blooming Prairie. Friday’s action saw the Triton boys drop another squeaker, 61-58, to United South Central. But ever the competitors, Triton bounced back on Saturday and defeated the St. Charles Saints, 77-67.
