Bears, KoMets girls soccer headed to section finals
On Tuesday, October 12, the Bears rolled in round one, with a 5-0 victory over Albert Lea, in the section quarterfinals 1AA playoffs. Byron dominated play, keeping the ball in the Albert Lea half. Ultimately, Olivia Amundson cracked the back of the net; from her very own corner kick.
Posting a 2-0 halftime lead, the Bears deflated the Tigers’ hopes, with a third goal, 4 minutes into the second half; and connected on two more tallies, to ice things. The Bears earned a slot in the semifinal round, for the right to face #3-seed Red Wing on Thursday night. Byron: Olivia Amundson, 2 goals; Elizabeth Felty, 1 goal; Ariana Payton, 1 goal; Marina Leigh, 1 assist; Pay- ton Satzke, 1 goal, 1 assist; Paige Halder, 2 assists.
Thursday’s semifinals action saw Byron get on the board, about 30 minutes into the game; with relentless pressure by forward Olivia Amundson. She forced a turnover and buried it in the back of the net.
Byron’s Marissa Ellavsky knocked the 2nd goal in, with an assist from Olivia Amundson. Emily Anderson recorded the shutout, with 6 saves for the Bears, in their 2-0 shutout win over the Wingers.
