5 KoMets advance to state

Like every sport, section wrestling has a new look to it this year. The COVID-19 safety rebuild, by the MSHS and MDH, now became Sections followed by a new Super-Sections.

In a quite field house at Cannon Falls, with limited spectators, there was joy and there was pain for the KoMet wrestlers. Five KoMets punched their ticket to the MSHSL State wrestling tournament.

Logan Vaughan (145), Cole Clazier (160), Kail Wynia (170), Bennette Berge (182), and Anthony Moe-Tucker (220) advance on to the one day state tournament Friday, March 26, at St. Michael - Albertville.

Jackson Kennedy (195), ranked #3 in the state, medically forfeited out of the individual tournament due to a knee injury. Kennedy first injured his knee against Shakopee on March 4.

Vaughan (145), flawless all year, was called for a slam in the finals against John Harvey from Lake City. Harvey was not able to continue to match, therefore, Vaughan lost the match, taking 2nd.

Glazier (160) faced Berg from Simley in the finals. Berg ranked #1 and Glazier ranked #3. This was no doubt one of the best matches of the weekend. These two faced off earlier in the season, where Glazier lost by decision.

In an exciting overtime finish, Glazier secured the take down for a 7-5 victory.

Wynia (170), entering as the top seed, fell to Travis Smith from Simley, 9-5. Wynia wrestled back for true second where he won by a pin fall against Wilsey from Mohtomedi.

Berge (182) ran through his bracket this weekend winning by three pin falls. He faced Byron's Austin Freerksen in the finals, pinning him in the second period.

Moe-Tucker (220) faced #1 ranked in state, Gavin Nelson from Simley in the finals. Moe-Tucker lost by pin fall. Moe-Tucker wrestled a true-second match against Soliday from St. Thomas Academy where he won by decision, 8-2.

The five KoMets will enter into an 8-man bracket on Friday. Fans can watch through Prep Spotlight at https://prepspotlight.tv/MSHSL/EventPackage.

Luke Swanson (106) 3rd place. Dominic Mann (132) 3rd place, Reed Parrish (Hwt) 3rd place. Henry Paulson (138) DNP, Giovanni Ruffo (152) DNP, Jackson Kennedy (195) DNP - medical forfeit.
