KMMS graduates new D.A.R.E class

Every year one of the most important things for fifth grade students at Kasson Mantorville Middle School is having the opportunity to complete the D.A.R.E course.

That’s why last Friday, the school honored the students accomplishments through a graduation ceremony.

For School Resource Officer, and D.A.R.E Instructor Jesse Kasel, he feels as though being a instructor for the course every year is one of the best parts of his job.

“One of the best parts of being a police officer is going into the classroom and teaching D.A.R.E.,” Kasel said. “I can still remember 25 years ago when "Deputy Rocky" came into my classroom and taught D.A.R.E. and the positive impact that left on me. Now I get the opportunity to be that officer making the positive impact and more importantly teach these kids how to make safe and responsible decisions in life,” he added.

Kasel is also thankful for all those who helped out throughout the year with D.A.R.E., including SADD students who served as positive role models throughout the year and will continue to do so.

“I would like to thank the staff and teachers for their accommodations, as well as the K-M High School S.A.D.D. club for being such great roll models for the fifth grade students,” Kasel said.

Each year students also have the chance to win prizes for the best essays and best posters that are designed at the end of the year. The essay award winners for this year were Jadelyn Boggs and Alivia Treiche. The poster winners were Addison Weitzel and Ambra Andrist.

For the poster winners, they will also have the chance to compete at the state level with the winner getting Twins tickets and the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at the game.

The classroom Daren the DARE lion stuffed animal used in every lesson was given away to Marili Espinoza-Allen.
