Kasson- Mantorville High School English Teacher and Teaching and Learning Coach Lisa Goihl will begin her new adventure this fall as the assistant principal of Instructional Leadership at River Falls High School in Wisconsin.

K-M’s Goihl lands new opportunity at River Falls High School

Since she began her career in education, Kasson-Mantorville High School English teacher and teaching and learning coach Lisa Goihl has always taken advantage of different opportunities presented to her.

That's why this September, she will begin her next chapter in education, as the assistant principal of Instructional Leadership at River Falls High School in River Falls, Wis.

Goihl began her career after graduating from college in her home area at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, when she landed a teaching job in Lake City, where she taught high school English courses for two years.

From there she landed a position at Lourdes High School in Rochester and worked there for 18 years as a grades 9-12 English teacher, Speech Team coach and English Department Chair.

After a nearly 20-year career in Rochester, Goihl heard of an opening at K-M and since she was itching to get back into public education, she knew it would be a perfect opportunity.

After working as a upper level English teacher for a couple of years, the district decided to add teaching and learning coaches in the district to further enhance learning, and in 2015 she took on the dual role as a part-time English teacher and part-time teaching and learning coach.

While working in these roles, Goihl explained that she has enjoyed working with both students and teachers.

“I have loved working with students and teachers in this dual capacity--and I have learned a lot in the process,” Goihl said.

For Goihl, her lifetime passion for education, is what made her want to become a teacher over 20 years ago.

“I was a student who always loved school and loved learning--I still do,” Goihl said. “When I was in high school, I realized that not everyone liked school and not everyone did well in school, so my why was formed: to help all students succeed in school and to love school as much as I did I have kept that why as I have taught the past 26 school years, and I try to make both happen through furthering my own education and learning more about how we learn, implementing research-based changes in my teaching and coaching practices, and having fun every day.”

For Goihl, her favorite part of being at K-M has been the quality education and people she has been around on a daily basis.

“My absolute favorite part of working at Kasson-Mantorville Schools is the people--students, staff, and families. K-M Schools is a place of quality education and wonderful people. I have learned so much from every person I have met, and I am forever grateful for the role each has played in my career and learning,” Goihl said.

As she gets ready for her new adventure in life, Goihl said that she has felt blessed to work in the district and is grateful to have learned plenty while in Kasson.

“I am excited for the challenge of becoming a building administrator and working on a team where I will focus on leading education among students and staff,” Goihl said. “My experiences at K-M have offered me a wonderful education, and I will always remember my years here fondly.”

Goihl said she is leaving a wonderful school with terrific people to head to another school that she believes to be equally wonderful. “I am looking forward with excitement to the next chapter in my career,” she said. “It has been my pleasure to have worked in the Kasson-Mantorville School District for the past six years,” she added.
