Leonard and Lois Marquardt have traveled the world, visiting all seven continents.

Local couple has visited all seven continents

Leonard Marquardt lived on a farm two miles north of Dodge Center with two siblings until the family moved to the present farm along Highway 56 on the west side of Dodge Center. He attended country school and then graduated from the Dodge Center High school where he had been in the band and choir. He started farming with his dad and they milked 27 cows plus the cropland.

Lois Marquardt lived in the Havana area (east of Owatonna) with one sibling and attended country school for 8 grades and then graduated from Owatonna High School. She was not involved with many extra things at school as her dad didn’t have the time to takeher to the activities. She then attended Mankato Commercial College and worked for Federated Insurance for 14 years in various departments.

Leonard and Lois met at a square dance club in Owatonna that would meet twice each month. They mentioned that several other couples they know also found their spouses who also attended the dances. In July 2021, the Marquardt’s celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Three years before she was married Lois went on a three-week trip to 10 countries with a friend.

After they were married Lois thought her traveling days were probably over since she married a dairy farmer and they would be tied down with the cows.
