Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School had a very successful Boosterthon Fun Run last week, as they raised money for its new playground.

Boosterthon Fun Run helps raise money for KMES playground

Over the past few years, the Kasson- Mantorville School District, has seen many improvements  to its facilities. One of the areas that hasn’t seen

improvements  is the playground at K-M Elementary School.

Because of this, the PTA has decided to dedicate funds from the Boosterthon Fun Run to the playground for the next two years.

Although the playground equipment is still safe, the reality is that it’s outdated, said KMES Principal Ariana Wright.

She explained that the playground is more than 20 years old, has been moved two times, and their hope is to be able to

build a more fitness based playground for its students, something that many families in the district would be pleased with.

The fun run took place last week, and KMES PTA President Heidi Durland said that the group is off to a great start withits fundraising goal of $50,000 over the next two years.

We are off to a great start with funding for the playground. This project is a big undertaking  and will involve collaboration  between the school district as well as the cities of Kasson and Mantorville,”  Durland said.  The KMES PTA has a goal of raising

$50,000 over the next two years to be donated the playground efforts. Other funding sources including school funds will be used to purchase and install the playground,

which will cost between $200,000 and $250,000. Aside helping to raise money for the playground, Wright sees the Boosterthon program as something that is great for the school for many other reasons.

“Boosterthon  is a great program because it combines character building, fitnessand a fundraising goal to provide a full experience and culture building within the elementary school,” Wright said. “All students participated in the fun run, whether they raised money or not. Everyone is a

part of the goal setting and celebration of achievement,”  she added.

Overall, Wright is very pleased with Boosterthon,  and the partnership they have built with the school.  “Boosterthon  has truly thought of everything when it comes to their fundraising experience.  Our students, staff and community get so much out of the character lessons and memory making at

the Glow Run,” Wright said. “I am so pleased our PTA has continued to partner with Boosterthon to provide a strong experience for all students focused on character development  and physical fitness. The playground will truly be the cherry on top of the sundae,” she added.

For those who would like to make a donation to the playground fund in any amount can do so by sending a donation to the KMES office. Videos and photos from the fun run can be found on the DCI Facebook page.
