BREAKING NEWS: A wild chase ends in arrest of boy

A wild police chase involving a stolen cement truck ended without any injuries Sunday afternoon in Dodge Center.

Deputies took an unidentified boy into custody after the hour-long chase through residential streets in Dodge Center and county roads between Dodge Center and Kasson.

Sheriff Scott Rose would not disclose the age of the driver, but it’s believed he was not of driving age. The boy was taken into custody and transported to a juvenile detention center in Rochester.

The chase began on Highway 14 when a state trooper pulled over the cement truck. Rose said the truck fled, hitting the trooper’s car.

The State Patrol called in its helicopter based in the Twin Cities to assist with the chase, which led officers from Dodge Center to county roads east of Kasson. The chase ended up coming back into Dodge Center.

During the chase, officers deployed stop sticks in an attempt to get the truck to stop, but it continued to drive on at least a couple flat tires.

It all turned into a Sunday afternoon spectacle for many people as they watched the chase unfold before their eyes. The truck sped through the city streets before finally coming to rest in the 600 block of 5th Street SE.

A Kasson police cruiser was also hit during the chase. Luckily, no one was injured.

The DCI will have more details on this unusual incident as they become available.
