Dodge County Relay for Life is ranked seventh in nation

Need proof Midwesterners are some of the most generous people on earth?

For the last five plus years, the Midwest Division of the American Cancer Society, Inc. has been number one in the nation per capita for raising money through Relay for Life. In 2016, about 13.9 million people raised about $17.7 million dollars, or $1.27 net per person. 

Then, narrow the focus down to just Dodge County, Minnesota. This lightly populated county, with fewer than 25,000 people, is number seven in the nation per capita for raising money through the Dodge County Stroll at $6.60/person. 

Dodge County Stroll Event Chair, Aleta Abbott, is always quick to give credit to the team of people that raise money all year for the event. About the recent news that the Stroll was number seven in the nation, she commented, "I am just so proud of the people of Dodge County and Byron for their commitment to the American Cancer Society. We laugh and cry together, and give all we can to fight back against this terrible disease that affects so many of our loved ones.

2017 will be our 25th Relay For Life and we're going to give a great fight and have fun doing it."

Sarah Finley is the Community Manager for Relay for Life in the Midwest Division of the American Cancer Society, Inc.

She explained, in Minnesota in 2015, the Society funded more than $7.5 million in cancer research grants and has been underwriting research for more
