Area students compete in creative writing contest

Several Triton students received Honorable Mention in the 24th-annual Zumbro Education District’s Creative Writing Contest.

The contest is for students in grades 5-12. This year’s theme: “The Day I Met …”

The students chose how to interpret the prompt, and let their creativity take them away in the form of poetry or prose.

A total of 329 students from Triton, Kasson-Mantorville, Blooming Prairie, Byron, Hayfield, Pine Island and Stewartville submitted their work to the ZED.

Their submissions were separated into divisions based on grade level and prose or poetry. Each piece was then read and judged anonymously by volunteers from all districts. The work with the highest score in each division was given an Exemplary award.  A score above 80 earned the writer an Honorable Mention.

A total of 34 Triton students participated. Those earning Honorable Mention were Jozey Boe (Elementary School); Makena Jensen, Kaitlyn Krupa, Caitlin St. Andrew and Ella Woxland (Middle School); and Natalie Donner, Hayden Rubin and Jacelyn Schley (High School).
