Then & Now
The first bridge to cross the Zumbro River at Mantorville was in 1859 and other replacement bridges followed in 1882 and 1888. The 1931 steel bridge was built at a cost of $24,813 and the three miles of Highway 57 between Mantorville and Kasson was the shortest highway in Minnesota when completed. This bridge was taken out and replaced in 1997. A temporary bridge was built during the construction so traffic could use Highway 57. The current bridge was dedicated on July 21, 1997, and built at a cost of $1.7 million. (Bridge construction photos from DCI files and present bridge photo by Wayne Hendrickson)
